Index - On September 21, 1953, U.S. airmen at Kimpo Air Base near Seoul, Korea, were startled
to see landing a MiG-15, the most advanced Soviet-built fighter plane of the era, piloted by
Senior Lieutenant No Kum-Sok, a 21-year-old North Korean Air Force officer. Once he landed,
Lieutenant No found that his mother had escaped to the South two years earlier, and they were
soon reunited. At his request, No came to the United States and became a U.S. citizen. His story
provides a unique insight into how North Korea conducted the Korean War and how he came to
the decision to leave his homeland |

Battle of the Korean War, 23 October 1951 |
McGill, Earl J. Lt. Col. UASF (ret.) |
Helion & Co |
9781907677212 |
BRAND NEW Hardcover in Dust Jacket - 224pp - Photos -
Maps - Documents - An hour and a half before sunup, nine B-29s of the 307th Bombardment
Wing lifted off from Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa on a bombing mission against Namsi, a
North Korean airfield under construction in the heart of MiG Alley. Five and a half hours later
they would engage in an air battle that would forever change the conduct of strategic aerial
bombardment. Six of the nine would not return, the highest percentage of United States bombers
ever lost on a major mission. Astonishingly, virtually nothing has been published about this
event. Official Air Force historical records mention it only in passing and literature of the period
too often emphasizes the gung-ho aspect than the grim reality of war. Black Tuesday Over Namsi
chronicles the calamitous B-29 daylight-bombing mission flown by the 307th Bombardment
Wing on 23 October 1951 against Namsi Airfield. What many experts consider the epic air battle
of the Korean War and perhaps the greatest jet engagement in the history of aerial warfare has
largely become another forgotten battle in a forgotten war. Here, Lt. Col McGill presents the
facts and circumstances of the mission from first briefing to final landing. |

1954. Following an introductory history of the Korean War and a precise chronology of all
Korean War operations, entries are arranged by operation name in five sections: primarily ground
operations, primarily air operations, primarily sea operations, specialized operations, and covert
and clandestine operations. For each operation, information includes dates, objectives, units
involved, place within the greater strategy of the war, and outcome |

| Combat Over Korea |
Philip Chinnery |
Pen and Sword Books |
9781848844773 |
BRAND NEW Hardcover with Dust Jacket (Protected in New
Brodart Jacket Cover) - 208pp - Photos - Combat Over Korea offers a superb selection of
thrilling accounts by Allied airmen of their experiences. These include air combat between
fighters, a B29 Superfortress bomber ditching in the sea, C-54 cargo plane being attacked by
North Korean fighters. We read of the exploits of the 21 Troop Carrier Squadron (The Kyushu
Gipsies) who flew into impossibly short strips to rescue thousands of wounded soldiers – they
received the Presidential Citation for their feat. Others tell of their hair-raising escapades after
being shot down. While a number miraculously avoided capture (often due to the skill of fellow
pilots), many were less lucky. Their treatment in captivity was often brutal. Very few escaped but
1st Lieutenant Melvin Shadduck did and he tells his story here, as do others who have
remarkable experiences to describe. While it was not until 1955 that the last POWs were
released, the Author concludes that there is every possibility that a number were denied freedom
forever. |

Korean Officer in the Korean War |
Hurh, Won Moo |
McFarland Publishing |
9780786465033 |
BRAND NEW Full-Sized Laminated Softcover - 196pp - 18
photos, 1 map, appendix, bibliography, index - In the spring of 1950, 17-year-old South Korean
high school senior Won Moo Hurh dreamed of studying law at Seoul National University after
graduation. His life changed irrevocably on June 25 when North Korean forces invaded his
homeland. After less than three months of training, Hurh was commissioned as a second
lieutenant in the Army of the Republic of Korea and sent to the front, where the casualty rate for
such junior officers could reach 60 percent. In this exceptional memoir, Hurh provides not only a
descriptive chronicle of his wartime exploits, but also a social psychological exploration on the
absurdity of war in general. Hurh’s vivid remembrances bring to life the "forgotten"
Korean War from the viewpoint of a Korean soldier, a perspective rarely available in English
until now. |

- Biblio - Index - On June 28, 1950, five U.S. airmen died when their aircraft were shot down
over Korea. They became the first U.S. casualties in a war that started three days earlier, when
the North Korean People’s Army crossed the 38th parallel and invaded the Republic of South
Korea. The losses of U.S. military personnel that began with those five airmen would continue
for 37 months and would ultimately total 33,985 American fatalities and more than 100,000 other
American casualties. This is a history of U.S. involvement in the Korean War as told through
those casualties--by the dates they occurred, their causes, their numbers and the units in which
they served--and through all Medal of Honor citations (given in full). The work is subdivided
into three units: The Peninsular War, Active Defense and The War of the Hills |

Fulcrum is acknowledged as the finest lightweight, multi-role fighter ever produced in Russia. It
was designed to operate under wartime conditions and fight head-to-head with Western combat
aircraft such as the U.S. F-16 Falcon, F/A-18 Hornet, French Mirage 2000, Rafale, and Swedish
JAS-39 Grippen. Roughly the size of the F/A-18 Hornet, the Mach 2.3 capable Fulcrum has also
demonstrated many extraordinary capabilities and set several world records, including topping
the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird in altitude. Presently in service with the Russian Air Force, as
well as the air forces of Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, India, Germany, Yugoslavia, Serbia, Iraq,
Czech Republic, Slovakia, Syria, Poland, Malaysia, Hungary, and Yemen, the MiG-29 has
proved to be a rugged and capable fighter that will continue to be a factor in future conflicts, both
as ally or foe. It is with this in mind that MiG-29 Flight Manual: Unclassified was created - to
provide a rare and unprecedented glimpse inside a top Russian aircraft. Using information that
only a few years ago was highly classified, this translated text presents an extraordinary look at
the capabilities and complexities of one of the very best fighters of the current age - Overseas

BRAND NEW Oversized Hardcover - 184pp - Mustangs Over
Korea is a documentary history of one of the most famous fighters ever built during a historically
almost unrecognized war. Flown by four air forces in support of the United Nations, the F-51
Mustang dropped more napalm and fired more rockets than any other aircraft during that conflict
- and in the process suffered the highest number of losses. Told is the story of the bravery of the
fighter-bomber pilots in the serious air-to-mud war against horrendous anti-aircraft fire, and also
the first swirling air battles against the vaunted MiG-15 - Overseas Shipping on this via Airmail

| North of the DMZ : Essays on Daily Life in North Korea |
Lankov, Andrei |
McFarland Publishing |
0786428392 |
BRAND NEW Laminated Softcover - 358pp - The Kim dynasty
has ruled North Korea for over 60 years. Most of that period has found the country suffering
under mature Stalinism characterized by manipulation, brutality and tight social control.
Nevertheless, some citizens of Kim Jong Il’s regime manage to transcend his tyranny in their
daily existence. This book describes that difficult but determined existence and the world that the
North Koreans have created for themselves in the face of oppression. Many features of this world
are unique and even bizarre. But they have been created by the citizens to reflect their own ideas
and values, in sharp contrast to the world forced upon them by a totalitarian system. Opening
chapters introduce the political system and the extent to which it permeates citizens’ daily lives,
from the personal status badges they wear to the nationalized distribution of the food they eat.
Chapters discussing the schools, the economic system, and family life dispel the myth of the
workers’ paradise that North Korea attempts to perpetuate. In these chapters the intricacies of
daily life in a totalitarian dictatorship are seen through the eyes of defectors whose anecdotes
constitute an important portion of the material. The closing chapter treats at length the significant
changes that have taken place in North Korea over the last decade, concluding that these changes
will lead to the quiet but inevitable death of North Korean Stalinism. |

| Ready to Fire : Memoir of an American Artilleryman in the
Korean War |
Holmsten, Richard B. |
McFarland Publishing |
0786416130 |
BRAND NEW Laminated Full-Size Softcover - 220pp - photos,
index - Once North Korean forces crossed the 38th parallel in 1950, the lives of many Americans
half the globe away, were disrupted. President Truman authorized a call up of enlisted, inactive
reservists--like Richard B. Holmsten, an about to be married 20-year-old with a bright future.
Replacements were needed for artillerymen killed during one disastrous day in August 1950. He
was assigned to the Headquarters Battery of the 8th Field Artillery Battalion of the 25th Infantry
Division. This memoir begins with Holmsten’s transition from civilian to newlywed soldier. It
covers training at Fort Lewis (Washington state), the voyage across the Pacific, and the readying
of a Fire Direction Control Center for 105 Howitzers near Kaesong. It covers the early days of
the conflict as the unit moved during the flux of battle, the problems faced as the unit retreated
south of Seoul, and the efforts put forth as the unit struck north again. The major campaign
covered concerns the crossing of the Han River in March 1951. The crossing was a massive but
fast operation, and Holmsten’s unit was responsible for firing 70,000 rounds of artillery against
enemy forces. The daily happenings, hopes and fears of soldier life are explored, including the
often-contentious relationship of enlisted reserve versus regular army. It concludes with the
author’s rotation back to civilian life. Photographs accompany the text |

WARSHIPS IN THE KOREAN WAR |

BRAND NEW Laminated Oversized Softcover - photos, notes,
bibliography, index - 260pp - From rubber landing boats to picket boats to minesweepers,
smaller support vessels did much of the work of the Korean War, and endured many of the
dangers and hardships. Rarely mentioned in histories of the war, they served functions essential
to keeping the United States Navy and the United Nations partners in active duty. This volume
delivers an overview of the various kinds of vessels involved, the difficulties of mobilizing the
aging American fleet at a time when a significant downsizing had been expected, and the design
and specification considerations of the support vessels needed for the new war effort. It lists the
individual support vessels and details the degree of their involvement, often providing
photographs as well as comments from men who served aboard the ships |

| THE 4TH FIGHTER WING IN THE KOREAN WAR |
Davis, Larry |
Schiffer Military Books |
0764313150 |
BRAND NEW Oversized Hardcover in Dust Jacket - 200pp -
This book covers the history of the 4th Fighter Wing, from re-activation in 1946, through the end
of the "short TDY" to Korea in 1957. The early history covers the entire F-80 era,
including the first jet aerobatic team, and the introduction of the legendary F-86 Sabre in 1949.
From daily squadron diaries, the coverage on Korea begins with the move to Korea in November
1950, through the first operations in December, including a first person account of LtCol Bruce
Hinton's first MiG kill. Dozens of MiG kill reports are included in the various chapters, with
another first person account of Capt Jim Jabara's fifth and sixth kills, making him the first jet ace
in history. Pilots from the 4th Wing accounted for 502 of the 792 MiGs shot down in the Korean
War, and had twenty-five aces of the total of thirty-nine aces crowned in Korea. Photo coverage
includes most of the aces and their aircraft, maintenance, and airfield scenes. A complete list of
every victory, and all the losses, is also contained. Interviews with pilots, crew chiefs, and factory
tech reps tell the complete story of the "Fourth But First" before, during, and after the
Korean War - Overseas Shipping on this via Airmail Only! |

BRAND NEW Oversized Laminated Softcover - 267pp - Index
- Photos - Maps - In many respects, all wars are alike. All soldiers compete for position and
mobility; all forces struggle for the larger territory, the greater power. Yet each war has as well its
distinguishing characteristics--its unique features, its most-remembered events, its particular
frustrations that haunt the dreams of its veterans. In Korea, it was the hills. The Korean hills
offered observation, artillery, and mortar advantage to whichever country controlled them. On
these hills, thousands of soldiers fought decisive battles for a few feet of land or for higher
elevation. This reference work identifies more than 400 hills, outposts, complexes and phase
lines that were key components of the Korean War, allowing researchers to relate individual
battles to the larger narrative of the war. Each entry details major operations fought in the area,
including the units involved, the area’s strategic value in the overall war, the type of combat,
and the munitions involved. Geographic features known by both numbers and names are
cross-referenced for ease of access. |

BRAND NEW Full-Sized Laminated Softcover - 333pp - To
most of the world, North Korea remains a secretive and mysterious nation, one that has tightly
controlled the outflow of information in order to groom its public image. This book chronicles a
rare, regime-sanctioned excursion by a North American into the heart of the Democratic
People’s Republic of Korea. What is revealed is often what’s expected, such as the adoration
of leaders, excursions to national monuments, and exposure to propaganda relating to
self-sufficiency. But as a Korean speaker, the author gathered a lot more information than the
scripted English narration provided by his Korean guides. Behind the propaganda of the
Communist regime, the authentic, eye-opening North Korea is revealed |

1st Edition - GOOD Condition Hardcover in Scarce Dust Jacket
(chipped) with $2.75 price showing - Dust Jacket Protected in New Brodart Jacket Cover - 223pp
- Lots of Full-Page War-Time Photos - Overall brown toning to pages - In 1942 Higgins was
hired by the New York Tribune and wanted to report the war in Europe but it was not until 1945
that she started reporting the war from France and later in Germany. This included accompanying
Allied troops when they entered the Nazi extermination camps at Dachau and Buchenwald. After
the war she covered the Nuremberg War Trials. At the start of the Korean War, she reported the
the fall of Seoul, to North Korean forces. The Tribune ordered her to return to Tokyo, but she
refused to go and was eventually able to persuade General MacArthur to allow her to continue
her front-line reporting after women had been banned from the front. She was with the Marines
during the Inchon Landing. In 1951, War in Korea, became a best-seller. That year she won the
Pulitzer Prize for international reporting and was voted Woman of the Year by the Associated
Press. She was buried at Arlington after contracting a fatal disease while covering the war in
Vietnam. |

Wittebols, James H. |
McFarland Publishing |
0786417013 |
BRAND NEW Laminated Full-Size Softcover - 272pp - Notes -
Index - It has been said that M*A*S*H was a show set in the 1950s which reflected the shifting
values of the 1970s and early 1980s. Hawkeye Pierce, Radar O’Reilly, Trapper John McIntyre,
Sherman Potter, Margaret (Hot Lips) Houlihan, B.J. Hunnicutt, Frank Burns, Charles Emerson
Winchester, Max Klinger--these and the many other characters who populated the MASH 4077
used the Korean War as a backdrop to comment on many of the social issues of their day. Using
a unique blend of comedy and drama, the show’s first three seasons (1972-1975) focused on the
anti-Vietnam War sentiment that consumed much of America. As Vietnam ended, M*A*S*H
moved on to concentrate on other contemporary issues--the women’s movement, the rise of the
religious right in American politics, the new narcissism that marked the early 1980s, the
heightened awareness of underage or excessive alcohol use, and the increased emphasis on
family in American life. How the series presented these issues and its success in doing so are the
subjects of this critical study. An episode listing--brief plot outline, casts and credits, air dates,
and titles--is also provided. |

A KOREAN WAR MEMOIR OF FIGHTING IN THE U.S. ARMY'S LAST ALL NEGRO
UNIT |
Morrow, Curtis James |
McFarland Publishing |
0786403330 |
BRAND NEW Laminated Full-Size Softcover - On March 27,
1950, the author turned 17; ten days later he enlisted in the U.S. Army. During his training in
Fort Belvoir, Virginia, he first learned of the “police action” in Korea, and like many others he
volunteered for duty there. His biggest fear was that the action would be over by the time he
arrived in Korea. Private Morrow was assigned as a rifleman in the 24th Infantry Regiment
Combat Team, one of the most outstanding units in Korea and the last all black army unit; he
served with distinction until he was wounded. After a short stint in Pusan, he became a
paratrooper and rigger in the 8081st Airborne and Resupplying Company stationed in southern
Japan. Throughout his time in the service, Private Morrow had to face the institutional racism of
the U.S. Army where black soldiers consistently served longer and performed more dangerous
duties than white soldiers. The effects of this on the 18-year-old private were longterm—and are
